Can What You Eat Affect Your Mood?

Ever wake up in the morning just wishing that you could sleep another hour or two? You know that you have to get up and begin your day, but your body just wants more sleep. Then once you drag yourself out of bed your still not really feeling all that great - UNTIL you have your first cup of morning coffee.

Then bang, your all charged up and ready to go.

Now we all know, that you can attribute that to the caffeine in the coffee, but wouldn’t it be nice if you could control all of your emotions just by by controlling what you eat?

Well, you can!

Your emotions are derived from the physical states that your body is in, in that particular moment.

Ever have someone tell you to go out and do something when you were feeling down? Going out and doing something will change your physical state which in turn changes your emotional state. Any drastic change like getting up and taking a walk will change the way you feel, but so does what you put in your body, just like the caffeine in coffee.

With the high stress world that we live in, people are just beginning to realize that how you are feeling and what you eat are very closely related. Recent studies show that the B complex vitamins which cannot be stored by the body are essential to your mood. to make things worse, these B complex vitamins are destroyed by such things as nicotine, caffeine, refined sugars and alcohol.

Deficiencies of B5 for example are fatigue, stress and depression. B5 plays a part in hormone formation and the uptake of amino acids and the chemical acetylcholine which combine to prevent certain types of depression. B5 is in many types of foods, but the highest levels of B5 are in peas, beans, lean meat, poultry, fish, sunflower seeds, mushrooms, low fat yogurt and corn just to mention a few. How many of these did you have today?

B12 is important to blood cell formation which in turn determines how well blood flows throughout the body. Poor blood flow means poor oxygenation and this also has an effect on mood. The main sources of B12 comes from meat, fish, poultry, eggs and dairy products.

The best way to get all the nutrition that your body needs is by taking a good multi vitamin every day. I recommend taking Body Balance by Life Force, a great tasting liquid vitamin.   Get more information by clicking on the Body Balance icon  in the right sidebar.

I am glad that the vitamins are helping you - if you are still not getting the result that you want, you are best off consulting your health professional. You may have a greater deficiency in one particular vitamin. Green tea is also really good for you. Thanks for the comment!
